What does the frost resistant adhesive or pointing mortar mean?

It means that the water quickly runs through the micro channels, also known as capillary channels of the finished (set) material structure, so it cannot freeze. Just think of the early spring or late autumn nights when it's usually.

What kind of tile is the gres tile or porcelain tile?

The tiles manufactured at very high temperature and high compaction pressure and usually fired twice are called gres tiles. These tiles do not have capillary structure; they do not absorb any water, so they can be applied outdoor.

What does the C1 mark mean for adhesives?

According to the European standard (EN 12004) adhesives with adhesive strength of 0.5-1 N/mm2 can be used for low-water-absorbing tiles (at least 3% water absorbtion).

What does the C2 mark mean for adhesives?

According to the above mentioned standard adhesives with higher adhesive strength than 1 N/mm2 get the C2 mark. It is important to know that the C2 mark does not mean by itself that the product is a flexible adhesive, since the good adhesion does not mean flexibility. The actual flexibility is determined by the S1 mark. Each Manufacturer takes the responsibility to call its C2 mark adhesive to flexible adhesive.

What does e.g. C1 T mark mean for adhesives?

Beside the C1 mark the T means that the adhesive can be skid-free applied on vertical walls too. Adhesives with C1 T mark can be used for large wall tiles.

What does e.g. C2 T mark mean for adhesives?

In this case it is about an adhesive with high adhesive strength that can be skid-free applied on vertical walls, and the open-time is longer than the average, so the adhesive layer does not "skin" that's why it adheres for a long time. In this case a large surface can be finished in one work phase.

What does e.g. C2 F mark mean for adhesives?

The adhesive has high adhesive strength, but quickly dries, rapidly hardens.

FLOOR SCREEDING: go to top of page

Is it necessary to use deep primer?

Indoor absolutely, since the deep primer de-dusts the surface and reduces the water absorption capacity of the backing.

When shall the adhesive bridge be applied?

It shall be used where the water absorbtion is zero, e.g. metal and glas surfaces, backing covered with linoleum adhesive, wooden floor, existing old pavement, painted surface etc.

Can the adhesive be used for floor screeding?

NOT! It is important to know that the adhesive mortar is not adequate for floor screeding.

Is it proper to form multi layer floor screed?

No, it is not! Optimally the proper floor screed is one-layered.

What are the upper and lower layer limits of wall screeding?

Usually the minimum layer-thickness is 1 mm, but with cement based plaster mass it can even be 0 mm. The maximum layer-thickness is 30 mm.

What are the upper and lower layer limits of floor screeding?

Usually the minimum layer-thickness is 1mm, the maximum is the lower limit of screed mortars, namely 25-30 mm, and above 30 mm the screed is more economical.

How can be the gypsum surface screeded?

In this case it is essential to use insulation primer before screeding.

What can we do if we have to tile on uneven tiles?

First, the uneven surface shall be covered by adhesive bridge and after its drying the floor screeding can be carried out.

What can be used for screeding on terraces?

Since the usual outward slope is 3% on terraces, the use of self levelling floor screed is not recommended. In this case the use of (well smoothed) screed is the best solution, but if the screed is thinner than 2.5-3 cm then the application of manually smoothed screed mortar is recommended.

In case of floor heating what can we do with the uneven floor?

It is essential to use flexible self levelling floor screeder after the deep primer.

What do the 1K and 2K signs mean?

It indicates the number of components, namely 1K refers to one-component insulation, and 2K refers to two-component insulation.

Where shall the 1K insulation foil be used?

Only indoor in the bathroom, above all it shall be used to insulate walls and floor against water.

What shall we take care of when using 1K insulation foil?

Since the foil is very vulnerable (it is thin foil, its thickness is 1 mm), do not walk on it in shoes and do not touch it with sharp objects.

What shall be used for insulation before tiling?

The insulation of the terraces against rainwater shall be always carried out by using 2K and 1K insulating material. The layer-thickness of the applied 2K insulating material shall be at least 2 mm, and after it has set its surface is passable and it can be tiled.

Where shall we use corner protecting band?

It shall be used when insulating internal angles with 1K or 2K waterproofing material, both indoor and outdoor, and for lap insulation of dilatations.

How shall we insulate the dilatation jointing of terraces?

First, spread the mixed 2K insulating mortar over both side of the dilatation in a thin layer, and then put the band on it; the centre line of the band shall cover the centre line of the dilatation. Using a spatula push the band into the insulation, and after its drying spread a second insulating layer on the whole surface.

What waterproofing layer order is recommended for terraces?

It is important to bond directly the tiles on the waterproofing with flexible adhesive (C2E S1).

IMPORTANT! The flexible adhesive shall be so called Fluid-bed or tixotrop flexible, and S1 quality adhesive that forms perfect cavity free adhesive layer.

What shall be used for indoor pool insulation?

In this case both the 2K and the 1K insulating mortar can be also applied.

CAUTION! The 1K insulation foil is inadequate for pool insulation.

What shall be used for outdoor pool insulation?

In this case only the 1K or 2K insulating mortar can be used together with the corner insulating band.

What does the negative water pressure mean?

The water pressure originating from the wall is called negative. When insulating the internal walls of cellars it is very important that the insulating mortar shall be adequate against negative groundwater, coming from the wall.

Is 1K insulation foil adequate for negative water pressure?

No, it is absolutely inadequate.

BONDING: go to top of page

What adhesive can be used for gres tiles?

For gres tiles until 30x30 cm tileformat the high quality (C2 category) adhesives can be applied, but for bigger floortiles the fluid-bed or tixotrop flexible adhesives are also adequate.

What adhesive can be used in case of floor heating?

In this case any of the high qualited flexible adhesives - at least C2TE but the best is C2TE S1 - can be applied.

What dilatation rules shall be compiled with?

Outdoor, e.g. for terraces at every 12 m2 the edge at juncture of the base and the terrace shall be dilated.

What adhesive shall be used for terraces?

The best solution is the so called fluid-bed or tixotrop flexible adhesive (C2E, C2E S1) that ensures cavity free adhesive layer.

Is the normal flexible adhesive sufficient for terrace tiling?

It is not sufficient, because only the fluid-bed or tixotrop flexible adhesive (C2E or C2E S1) can ensure perfect and cavity free adhesive layer.

What adhesive shall be used for tiling the floors of shopping centres?

Also in this case the best solution is the fluid-bed or tixotrop flexible (C2E or C2E S1) adhesive.

What adhesive shall be applied in unheated buildings?

Flexible adhesive shall be used in any case, because on summer and winter time the temperature variation is the same in the unheated buildings as outdoor.

Shall adhesive bridge be applied when tiling the old tiles?

Yes, when using normal flexible adhesives, but it is not necessary when applying S1 category flexible adhesives.

How can the linoleum adhesive be tiled?

First, spread adhesive bridge material on the surface, and after its drying apply flexible adhesive on it.

JOINTING: go to top of page

What does the CG2 S1 mark mean for powder form jointing mortars?

It means that the jointing material is a high quality (CG2) and a high flexible mortar (S1) for extrem places, e.g. outside, balcony, terrace, floor heating.

What is the silicone jointer used for?

It is used for jointing dilatation, edges and base tiling; it can be applied at the juncture of bathtub and tile, door frame and tile.

What shall be used when jointing floor heated surface?

The above mentioned CG2 quality flexible jointing shall be applied.

What shall be used for terrace jointing?

The same shall be used as for floor heating - CG2 and CG2 S1 one.

How can the cement residue layer be removed?

For this purpose the cement residue remover is the best.
